Services

What are the services provided?

Inpatient healthcare services concern healthcare services provided to a beneficiary who is admitted in a hospital because:

  • At least one overnight stay of the beneficiary is required, and/or
  • Use of specialised medical infrastructure and/or medical equipment found in a hospital is required.

Inpatient healthcare services cover a wide range of healthcare services provided by one and/or more departments or units of a hospital such as for example the departments of Surgery, Pathology, Diagnostic Radiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Diagnostic Laboratories, Intensive Care Unit.

It is noted that there are cases of inpatient healthcare services that do not require the beneficiary’s overnight stay.

This concerns incidents of day-stay where the beneficiary is admitted to the hospital and treated for a few hours whenever the treatment requires the use of specialised infrastructure and/or medical equipment found in a hospital.

All inpatient healthcare services covered by the GHS are included in the Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) Catalogue  posted on the GHS website.
