How to access the A&E services?

1. Beneficiary  access to A&E

Beneficiaries are entitled to visit an A&E Department of their choice for the provision of healthcare services either directly, without referral or after receiving a referral by another healthcare provider as follows:
Direct Access
Beneficiaries are entitled to have direct access to the healthcare services provided by the A&Es in the following cases:
  • Emergency medical incident
  • Accident
Access by referral
Beneficiaries are entitled to have access to the healthcare services provided by the A&Es after receiving a referral by another provider as follows:
  • Referral by a personal doctor,
  • Referral by an outpatient specialist,
  • Referral by a hospital within the framework of its provision of inpatient healthcare services, when the hospital deems it necessary to call an ambulance for the beneficiary’s transfer to an A&E

2. Beneficiary access to Other Healthcare Providers via A&E

Upon discharge the A&E may refer beneficiaries to:
A hospital for the provision of inpatient healthcare
When a beneficiary is examined by an A&E and it is determined that his/her health status requires admission to a hospital for the provision of inpatient healthcare services, the beneficiary is referred to a hospital of his/her choice that is contracted with the HIO accompanied by a relevant medical report.

The transfer of the beneficiary to a hospital other than the one housing the A&E will be possible only if the health status of the beneficiary allows it and upon his/her own or his/her relatives’ responsibility.

In addition, the A&E may upon discharge of the beneficiary prescribe any required pharmaceutical products.
