How can I have access to the healthcare services provided by the GHS?
In order to have access to the healthcare services provided by the GHS you must be registered in:
  • the GHS Beneficiary Record, and
  • a Personal Doctor List
How can I enrol in the GHS Beneficiary Record?
You can enrol in the GHS Beneficiary Record online or by visiting a PD.

In order to enrol in the GHS Beneficiary Record, you must be registered in the Civil Registry, or the Registry of the Migration Department and, as the case may be, in the Social Insurance Services Registry.

In addition, and in order to confirm that the criteria of the GHS Law of 2017 are complied with, the Health Insurance Organisation may request additional certificates and/or evidence.
How can I enrol as a beneficiary online?
The request for enrolment in the GHS Beneficiary Record is submitted online via the Beneficiary Portal.  The first step to access the said portal is to create an account via the HIO website and activate it.

You can then connect to the Beneficiary Portal and proceed with the enrolment request following the instructions on the screen. The enrolment process requires that the interested party fills in specific fields in order to be identified in the abovementioned Registries (Civil Registry, the Registry of the Migration Department and the Social Insurance Services Registry) as well as some additional information (e.g. address, telephone number for communication etc.)
Do I have to submit my request with attached evidence by post?
The request is submitted only online.  If a request cannot be completed with the information included in the said Registries (Civil Registry, the Registry of the Migration Department and the Social Insurance Services Registry) the system will inform you that you must print your request and attach the required evidence and send it to the HIO.  The system provides clear and detailed instructions regarding the evidence that must be submitted depending on the beneficiary category selected by the applicant.  For further information in relation to the evidence that must be submitted click here.
I do not have access to the Internet. How can I enrol in the GHS?
Persons who do not have access to the Internet can enrol with the help of third parties that have an account in the Beneficiary Portal given that the said procedure can be done with the consent of the interested party.

Therefore, you may submit your GHS beneficiary enrolment request either with the help of a third party who has an account in the Beneficiary Portal or by visiting a personal doctor.  Please note that by visiting a personal doctor you are able to also complete your registration in their list.  This procedure applies provided that it will not be required to submit any additional evidence.  If any additional evidence is required in order to complete the procedure, the PD will not be able to proceed with your online enrolment.  In this case, you may submit your online request via the Beneficiary Portal with the help of a third party as described above.
How can I register in a Personal Doctor List?
Beneficiaries are able to search for Personal Doctors who are contracted with the Health Insurance Organisation for the provision of healthcare services by a Personal Doctor within the framework of the GHS either on the HIO website or the Beneficiary Portal or on printed directories that are made available by the HIO in various places that will be announced to the beneficiaries.

There are two ways to register in a Personal Doctor List:
  • Online via the Beneficiary Portal, or
  • By visiting a Personal Doctor
I have enrolled in the GHS and a PD List online – when do I have to visit my PD?
Have you been informed by e-mail or the Beneficiary Portal that the PD you have selected has accepted your request for registration in his/her PD List? If yes, in order to complete your registration procedure you must visit your personal doctor.

During this first visit your Personal Doctor will fill in/confirm your personal information and you will jointly sign the Form of Mutual Acceptance.  In addition, your Personal Doctor will give you a unique number that, in combination with a relevant email that you will receive, it  will give you access to your  Electronic Patient History.
I have enrolled in the GHS Beneficiary Record but not with a PD and I cannot do this procedure online. What are my options?
If you are already enrolled in the GHS Beneficiary Record you may visit the personal doctor in whose list you wish to be registered.

During the visit, the Personal Doctor can register you in his/her List.  In addition, the Personal Doctor will fill in/confirm your information and you will jointly sign the Form of Mutual Acceptance in two copies, one of which will be given to you.

Also, the Personal Doctor will give you, if you so request and if you have a listed email address in the Beneficiary Record, a unique number that in combination with a relevant email that you will receive will give you access to your Electronic Patient History.
How can the beneficiary have access to his / her Medical History? Linking a Beneficiary File with a User Account
Guidelines to link Portal Account with Beneficiary Record and Access the Beneficiary Medical History

The beneficiaries can access their Medical History once they link their Beneficiary Record with their Portal Account.

For adult beneficiaries, ONE portal account can be linked to ONLY ONE beneficiary record.

Records of minor children are automatically linked with their parent’s portal account once the parents link their portal account with their own beneficiary record.  Both parents have access to their children’s record. This applies also for beneficiaries without Cypriot Nationality, provided that the parents have enrolled to the GHS prior to their children. In case the parents have enrolled after their children, they must request from the child’s Personal Doctor (Paediatrician) to add their data into their child’s record during the Beneficiary Verification/Identification process. If they do not follow these steps, they must contact the HIO.

A.Link Portal Account with Beneficiary Record

To link their portal account with their beneficiary record the beneficiaries must follow the steps below:

  1. Request from their PD to generate the verification codes.
The beneficiary must visit the PD and request the generation of the verification codes. Two verification codes will be issued. The first is printed at the PD’s office and the second is sent (automatically) to the email that resides in the beneficiary’s record. That is, the email that was declared for communication purposes during the GHS enrolment process. If no email has been declared, the PD can add the beneficiary’s email to their record, and then issue the verification codes. The system allows the generation of verification codes only if an email address has been declared into the system.
Note: The verification codes are valid for 24 hours. If the process is not completed within this period the beneficiary must request from his/her PD the generation of new verification codes.

  1. Case A: The beneficiary already has a portal account:
Log into the portal account by selecting “Beneficiary Portal” from the HIO website www.gesy.org.cy and input the verification codes. To do this, follow the steps below:
  1. 1    Log into your portal account from the Beneficiary Portal.
  2. 2    In the initial page select “Link your Record”.
  3. 3    Enter the verification code provided by the PD (verification code 1) and          the verification code sent to the beneficiary’s email (verification code 2).

At this point, the beneficiary must ensure that he/she inputs the correct verification codes that correspond to the specific beneficiary record. In case of a mistake the portal account maybe linked to another beneficiary record. In this case the beneficiary must contact the HIO immediately.

  1. Case B: The beneficiary does not have a portal account
The beneficiary must create a portal account by selecting “Create an Account” at HIO website www.gesy.org.cy, log into the account and then input the verification codes.

In case the beneficiary does not already have a portal account he/she must create one. To create a portal account the beneficiary will need an email and a mobile phone number. The email must be unique, whereas the mobile phone number can be used multiple times. Once the portal account has been created, the beneficiary must follow the steps 2.1-2.3 to link the portal account with the beneficiary record.

Note: From one portal account the user can submit multiple GHS enrolment requests. The user submitting the requests has NO access to the medical record of the beneficiaries he/she has enrolled. Access is provided only through the process described above. In order to have access to the other beneficiaries’ records (e.g. spouse, parents, etc.), separate portal accounts must be created and linked to each record.

B.Access the Beneficiary Medical History

Once the beneficiary record is linked to the portal account, the beneficiary must follow the steps below in order to view his/her medical history:
  1. Log into the portal account.
  2. Enter the one time password (OTP) received on your mobile telephone.
  3. Select “Beneficiary Record” from the side menu.

Note: To view the records of minor children, the beneficiary must select from the user icon (top right – “Switch Beneficiary”) the name of the child.
