Access

 

1. Beneficiary access to a personal doctor (PD)

The PD offers healthcare services to the beneficiaries who are registered in his list.  All beneficiaries must be registered in a beneficiary list in order to enjoy the healthcare services provided by the GHS:
  • Children up to the age of fifteen (15) must be registered in a list of a PD for children or of a PD for adults where no paediatrician is available
  • Persons who have attained the age of fifteen (15) and up to attaining the age of eighteen (18) will have the right to choose to be registered in a list of either a PD for children or a PD for adults
  • Adults who have attained the age of eighteen (18) and up to the age of sixty-five (65) must be registered in a list of a PD for adults List who does not have a specialty in geriatrics
  • Adults who have attained the age of sixty-five (65) must be registered in the list of a PD for adults or of a PD for adults specialised in geriatrics
Provided that the beneficiary is registered in a beneficiary list he/she has direct access to that PD. 
 
Right to choose a PD
Beneficiaries have the right to be registered with a personal doctor of their choice or in the case of minors who have not attained the age of eighteen (18) to a PD of the choice of their parents or guardians.  
 
Right to change your PD
From October 1st to December 31st 2019 beneficiaries have the right to change their Personal Doctor after a period of 3 months, provided 3 months have elapsed since they registered to PD catalogue.
After that, the  Beneficiaries will have the right to change their Personal Doctor after the lapse of a 6 month period as of their registration with a PD. Beneficiaries up to the age of 2 may change their PD without any timeframe restrictions.

 

2. Access of beneficiaries to other healthcare providers via their personal doctor

The PD may refer beneficiaries to the following healthcare providers:
  • outpatient specialist
  • outpatient specialist in diagnostic radiology for diagnostic tests
  • outpatient specialist in cytology and pathological anatomy by sending specimens for diagnostic tests
  • nurse, clinical dietician, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, physiotherapist & clinical psychologist 
  • Accident & Emergency Department
  • Medical rehabilitation centre
  • Palliative healthcare centre
  • laboratory 
In addition, the PD may prescribe the necessary pharmaceutical products. 

PDs may have up to 2500 beneficiaries registered in their list at any time
